What's wrong with the '85 valve body? The transmission sat outside for a number of years (guessing) and there was enough water in the pan to completely rust the thing together. Yes, I've heard the valving in the early VB's is less desirable and that is why I want to run the 2nd gen VB on an early case. I figure swapping in all of the updated hard parts from the late 700 into an early case and not using the aux. I EXPECT an extremely firm, if not harsh, engagement. I am building this trans for mild performance use and the least of my worries is a harsh engagement. It is simply just another place to leak, and lose pressure within the transmission. Why am I building the '85 case? Simple-I don't like the concept of the auxillary valve body. Trnsmith10-thank you for taking time out to reply to my post. I'm hoping someone will have the answer that I am looking for. I also have a late VB with cast #4442 with 1 hole above the 1-2 shift valve. Anyone know the answer?Īnyone know casting numbers from 700's that might interchange? I have 2 early VB's here (82-86) that have 4256 cast in them with 2 holes above the 1-2 shift valve. So I need to know if the LATE VB can be used in the EARLY case if I use the early non-aux V/B separator plate. I am building a 1985 case with parts I am taking out of a 1987. Others tell me that you can't ever swap VB's between the first 2 generations of 700's. If so, what are the rules? I've heard that some casting numbers can be used between the early & late units with no problems. I need to know can you swap Early (82-early 87) valve bodies, with late (late 87 through early 93) valve bodies in the 700r4? I have posted this on a couple other forums, and I'm hoping collectively I can find what I am looking for, and maybe along the way help someone else who might be in the same situation.
